FED Meeting Symposium FED2000(The Symposium on Future Electron Devices 2000) The session opened by three keynote speakers: Chairman Yamamoto spoke on "IT Basic Technology/What Japan Should Do Now?". NEDO Director Matsui expressed his hopes on nanotechnology and semiconductor R&D. Director-General Kajimiura of the Agency of Industrial Science and Technology spoke on decision-making cycles in the IT era based on the significance of accountability. In the plenary session, Professor Hirose at Hiroshima University gave a keynote speech on IT basic technology development--targets of the next Si device technology development in the coming decade. Following the keynote speech, Professor Itao at The University of Tokyo gave a speech on wearable environmental information network technology, which is expected as an application of Si devices. In the following panel discussion, Professor Hirose worked as the coordinator and the roles of universities and national research institutes in basic technology R&D programs were discussed. Six panelists from the academic, industrial, and government circles, including Professor Ohmi of Tohoku University, exchanged their views and opinions, particularly on personnel, evaluation, and project feasibility. The audiance also joined the discussion. |
